This Emergency Department intervention plan is funding a pilot program via a Peer Recovery Coach approach to assist with local efforts to address addiction. The coaches Began working in the Sparrow, McLaren and St Lawrence Emergency departments in November. Their job responsibility is to engage and support individuals who present with a substance use disorder—and an emphasis is placed on those individuals admitted for opiate overdose reversal. Judge Linda Davis was the keynote speaker at the event, and Chapter President Lauren Rousseau and Chapter Vice-President Brian Spitsbergen also spoke. This event was a community sponsored event with professional musicians donating their time, including professional recording artist M. Maggie who returned to her home town to perform. FAN SWMI has trained 147 individual on overdose prevention response and distributed 88 naloxone kits in the month of June. Since Dec 2015 through June 2016 FAN SWMI has trained 891 individuals in overdose prevention and response and distributed 586 kits in Southwest Michigan with 5 reported reversals. FAN SWMI has been working with the Red Project and Southwest Michigan Behavioral Health to provide Law Enforcement departments with overdose response education and Naloxone use. Currently 42 Departments and several Michigan State Police posts carry naloxone. This has resulted in 23 overdose reversals with naloxone since February 2016.-June
