FAN Macomb held their annual candlelight ceremony to reflect upon the year. We remembered our loved ones that we lost too soon, those struggling with addiction and celebrate those that are in recovery. Afterward, we had a light reception with dinner and holiday treats.-December 18th

FAN NW Wayne County President, Lauren Rousseau,  gave a one-hour teleconference presentation to the American Medical Women’s Association’s Opioid Addiction in Women Task Force, which is comprised of medical professionals and students from around the country. Her topic concerned actions that Michigan is taking, legislatively and otherwise, to address the opioid epidemic. -December 4th

FAN NW Wayne County continued to offer twice monthly supportive meetings, one for grief support for those who have lost loved ones to addiction, and one for family and friends of addicted loved ones. -December

FAN Okemos board/advisory board members coordinated efforts with others within the community to provideProject Assert; utilizing Peer Recovery Coaches in the ED.  This Emergency Department intervention plan is funding a pilot program via a Peer Recovery Coach approach to assist with local efforts to address addiction.   The coaches Began working in the Sparrow, McLaren and St Lawrence Emergency departments in November.  Their job responsibility is to engage and support individuals who present with a substance use disorder—and an emphasis is placed on those individuals admitted for opiate overdose reversal.    Special Kudos to E. FAN Macomb Fraser’s monthly form featured a panel of speakers regarding Hope Not Handcuffs. The panel consisted of two parents who lost children to overdose, two Hope Not Handcuffs Angels, two Hope Not Handcuffs participants, Lisa Pettis and George Rouhib from the Fraser Department of Public Safety, Sargent Baron Brown of the Ferndale Police Department.  Over 100 community members attended the meeting – September 19th

FAN Macomb John Mattarella taught a free Narcan training class where attendees were taught how to recognize an overdose and how to administer Narcan. After the class, each attendee was given a free Narcan kit.   Over 50 attendee were trained and given Narcan – September 19th

FAN Macomb WDIV Channel 4 news featured a special that ran all day regarding opioid addiction in Michigan. Katie Donovan was interviewed live on the air and she had a web chat going all day with David Clayton. Channel 4 featured a story on Hope Not Handcuffs and had a live phone bank running all day. FAN volunteers manned the phones along with Brighton Center for Recovery and CARE of Southeast Michigan. – September 6th

FAN Macomb Michael White was the speaker at Romeo’s monthly forum. Michael served in the United States Air Force for over 20 years and he shared his story of recovery with over 25 years clean and sober. – September 5th

FAN Macomb Judge Linda Davis, Katie Donovan and CARE of Southeast Michigan met with the CEOs and Presidents of Henry Ford, McLaren Macomb, St. Johns Macomb and Beaumont hospitals to discuss the possibility of rolling out Hope Not Handcuffs in the hospitals and to educate the staff on addiction.  – September 1st.

FAN Macomb attended the International Overdose Awareness Vigil at Christ Church Fraser on Thursday, August 31st.  Several hundred attended the event hosted by FA, Tomorrow a Better Day, Christ Church Fraser and FAN. It was a beautiful tribute to those loved ones we lost too soon in our community to an overdose. - August 31st

FAN Lapeer Pegg Patten and Vickie Phelps did a presentation to the Lapeer Rotary Club.   Vickie shared her son’s story of how his addiction to prescription pain medication lead to his use of heroin and ultimately his death due to overdose. – May 23rd 

 

FAN Fraser was the beneficiary of the Macomb County Medical Control Authority 2nd Annual Charity Golf Outing benefiting Hope Not Handcuffs at Gowanie Golf Club in Harrison Township.- May 22nd

FAN Lapeer the women in recovery support group was held.  There were four women in attendance.  Alexa McClelland was our recovery speaker. – May 22nd 

FAN Fraser Freddy’s Bar and Grill hosted a fundraising event and donated the proceeds to Hope Not Handcuffs raising $2,600 for the cause. Many FAN Board members and Angel volunteers were in attendance along with some of the participants families. – May 20th
